Asplund was last seen at a friend's house on 1/9/94. When he didn't come home by 6:00 am the following day, his fiancee began searching for him. Asplund's car was discovered abandoned in a parking lot west of Interstate 74 in Bettendorf, IA. There was no sign of him at the scene.
Unspecified forensic evidence was discovered inside the vehicle, but test results on it was inconclusive. Several months after the car was found, Asplund's driver's license was located on a bridge at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve in Rock Island County, IL. Police searched the river below for his body but found no evidence relevant to the case.
Authorities and Asplund's brother believe foul play was involved in his case. Since his disappearance he has not used his credit cards or withdrawn any money from his bank account. His case remains unsolved.
He was last seen wearing a Chicago bears pullover jacket, a white sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and tennis shoes.

Dale Strassburger was reported missing to the Le Claire Police Department in Le Claire, Iowa, on August 6, 1982. Strassburger, who was employed as a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., and lived in Davenport, Iowa with his parents, was last seen on his way home from work at 12:15 a.m. on August 6, 1982. He never arrived home and has never been heard from again. His car was found abandoned on the Le Claire bridge over the Mississippi River on Interstate 80, about 15 miles from his home. Extensive searches of the river and the surrounding area turned up no sign of Strassburger. Investigators say they have no proof of foul play in Strassburger’s disappearance, though after three decades his whereabouts remain unknown and his case unsolved.

"My best friend Linda's sister Carol Ann Cole went missing in approximately 1979. Linda was just a child at the time and was given very little information as to what happened to her sister. As she grew older she became more and more upset about not knowing what happened to her sister. She and I had discussed this many times and I was there for Linda as she cried many times.
Sometime in the 90's I decided to try and help her find her sister. At the time I had no pictures of her sister and very limited information so I just sent letters to the state police in Texas and in Louisiana because those were the last two places that she was known to be. However I never got any responses from my letters. Later I tried mailing some homemade fliers but again received no replys.
Then came the popularity of the internet and I began posting Craigslist ads in several cities with a picture of Carol Ann asking for information. I also started searching data bases such as NAMUS and the DOE network for any unidentified victims that may fit Carol Ann's description. Some of the pictures I saw over and over again; so many unclaimed! It was very emotionally draining, but I continued to search. There were times when I would stop for a while because other commitments would get in the way and the search would go on the back burner and then I would start again.
Then on 02/13/2015 I received an email from someone who told me he worked for the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department in Louisiana. He said a friend had told him about my Craigslist ad there, and that he would like to ask me a few questions about my friend's missing sister. I answered a couple of questions, but then became concerned that he may not be who he said he was because over the years I have received countless emails from these ads that are people claiming to be something they are not, or people who are just giving false information. So I Googled Bossier Parish Sheriffs department to try to confirm who this person was. When I did the Google search, I saw an article talking about the Bossier Sheriffs department starting a Facebook page to try to develop new leads in a cold case they were working on involving a young woman who had been stabbed to death. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009104974055&fref=ts. When I clicked on the link I couldn't believe the resemblance to my friends sister. As I read the case, there were many other similarities too. So I emailed him back and also messaged the detective who was manning the Bossier Doe Facebook page. I sent them a picture of my friend's sister and they all agreed that the resemblance was uncanny. At that point they ordered DNA tests , and the press began writing stories about the possible break in the case. On February 23, 2015 DNA samples were received in Louisiana and we are awaiting the results. Meanwhile I am still continuing to search just in case, so we have also set up a Facebook page for Carol Ann.
